Insignia NS-DXA1 - Zenith DTT900 Converter Box Difference?

I've read that these two digital TV decoder boxes (two of the cheapies qualified under the coupon program) are identical, produced by LG. If so, then why is there an insistence that there's a difference between the two? What exactly makes them different, if anything?

I have read the same here and on engineering discussion forums for the network I work with.

The only real difference that is easily found without disassembling the box is that the Insignia is a product sold by Best Buy. And all Best Buy in house TV products -- no matter who makes them -- are sold with the Insignia name.

Zenith is the name that LG choose for its brand name product. LG bought out Zenith years ago and discontinued the name. But it is likely that LG thought that the name Zenith would appeal to owners of the original Zenith TV sets which are still in operation. After all Zenith was once an American brand name.

If you see all the list of names used for the converter boxes that qualify for the coupon you will also see the name Philco and the name RCA among them. The brand names Philco, RCA and Zenith are known to early TV adopters as the brand names available back then. So when you are trying to sell to people who still have some of those sets in operation it is a good idea to use names that they recognize.
