why is new york such a popular movie location?

Because I live there and all the moview producers want me in their movies!! Duh!!!

I think because most people, even people in other countries, are in some way familiar with New York City. While many people may never have even gone to NYC, they can still relate to it because there is SO much activity in the city. It gives people something familiar to relate to when watching movies, and the same is true for TV shows.

The same could also be said about London, I think. Though it's not exactly true to the same degree for London as it is for New York.

Because New York is considered to be a hub of activity, whether it be violence or the lives of the wealthy or the lives of the poor. You can't get all these aspects in suburbia, where life tends to be more even keeled. New York just happens to be the largest city in the U.S. and it makes it a good movie background.

because its familiar at least once in a lifetime people go to new york!!! so they know the streets and the places and is familiar!
