Can I put a freezer in my garage?
I need an extra freezer (the stand alone type, not a frig/freezer). Can I put this freezer in my garage? I live in Boston, where it gets hot (80's and humid) during the summer and cole (garage can get to 40 degrees in the winter, maybe colder). Its also a garage, so dusty, dirty, etc. Are freezers designed to function in this kind of environment, or will I just be wasting my money? thanks

Yes. No problem.
Just clean the coils off regularly and it will work fine.
I have one that is subject to over a 100F in the summer and below 0F in the winter.
G'luck.

You can put a freezer in a garage. I know my parents have a freezer in their garage and they live in South Florida so the heat will not make it not function.
It may not run as efficiently when the garage temp gets high because it cannot offload the heat as quickly, but unless the garage temp is getting over 140F you should be fine. Also, the cold temperature should not affect the freezer either. If anything it will hardly need to run because the ambient temperature of the room is so close to the temperature inside the freezer.
One thing to be aware of, with the added clutter and dust of a garage, is that you will want to make sure that you leave the back side of the freezer (where the coils are) with enough room to breathe and at least once a year clean the coil fins with a soft nylon brush to remove excess dust and keep the freezer running as optimally as possible.

Back home (i grew up in the country) everyone pretty much has a freezer in a garage or shed, usually the chest freezer types, and I've never heard of anyone with any problems. You might need to adjust the settings in the winter/summer to make sure it's cooling to the right amount, but apart from that it should be fine.

I'd bet most freezers are in garages. Will be fine, about everyone I know here in Oklahoma has them in their garages or even outside sheds. No problems. And we get way hotter in the summer.

Yea what i do is put a sheet of "sarking" over the top to stop the dust
sarking is the stuff you put on a house to insulate
its shiney on one side blue on the other, reasonably stiff, doesnt attract moisture so the freezer wont rust, its heavy enough that a breeze wont blow it off, lasts for years
just cut a piece that is say 2inches larger then the freezer top
