Anyone read ''Macbeth'' by Shakespeare ?

If you did... what did you think of Macbeth (as a character) at the very beginning of the book? Give details please! Thanks... (:

Update:

Why wouldn't you read the play? It is the shortest of Shakespeare's play and has some of the most beautiful language.

Macbeth at the beginning of the play was a strong warrior. The first thing we hear about Macbeth is from a lower rank warrior. He was a very brave very skilled warrior which earns him the respect of Duncan the king and gives him the Thane of Cawdor as the weird women promised.

We hear from Lady Macbeth who knows him very well that he is a great warrior and not with out ambition but is to up right and loyal to see the most direct path.

We don't see Macbeth until Act 1 Scene 3 when he meets the weird sisters with Banquo and hears the famous prophecy that sets the rest of the play in motion. Banquo is immediately apprehensive of the witches but still asks after his own fortune. Macbeth listens but hardly says a word until the messengers arrive and hail him Thane of Cawdor. He then has a very long aside to the audience where we first hear his contemplations of murder. Note: BEFORE he talks to Lady Macbeth he was considering murder but like Lady Macbeth said he is to scared to admit it out right.

It is not until Act Two when Duncan come to visit the Macbeth castle that he lets go of his persona as an honorable soldier and commits himself to his wife to murder Duncan. Well aware that he owes Duncan so much he agrees to go ahead with murder.

There are a lot of great books available at your library. I usually read the Oxford copy first because it has the best word definitions and a lot of handy background on the story and time period. If you want to see a really interesting modern version of Macbeth look for the BBC short version of Macbeth. It all takes place in this five star restaurant. Duncan is the figure head while Macbeth and Banquo do all the work in the kitchen. It's really interesting if your looking for more information on motives and the rest.

    I hope that is helpful.

Macbeth - Macbeth is a Scottish general and the thane of Glamis who is led to wicked thoughts by the prophecies of the three witches, especially after their prophecy that he will be made thane of Cawdor comes true. Macbeth is a brave soldier and a powerful man, but he is not a virtuous one. He is easily tempted into murder to fulfill his ambitions to the throne, and once he commits his first crime and is crowned king of Scotland, he embarks on further atrocities with increasing ease. Ultimately, Macbeth proves himself better suited to the battlefield than to political intrigue, because he lacks the skills necessary to rule without being a tyrant. His response to every problem is violence and murder. Unlike Shakespeare’s great villains, such as Iago in Othello and Richard III in Richard III, Macbeth is never comfortable in his role as a criminal. He is unable to bear the psychological consequences of his atrocities.
