Can we still consider Japanese as "Asian"?

Many people are now considering "removing" Japan from Asia, considering the fact that Japan is far too advanced to be called Asian, and even too Westernised (that their Calendar is totally Gregorian) to be called Oriental. No culture comes close to matching Japan. Not even Koreans (they're more Chinese than Japanese) or Mongolians (they're more Altaic).

Japanese have Katakana, used primarily for transcription, especially from English. Examples are like: "Aisurimonti" (Ice Lemon Tea) and "Osutoraria" (Australia), unlike other Asian language that has own native words and minimal borrowal.

Update:

That's untrue, betterthanyou. For example, Russia IS a continent by itself, since it belongs to neither Europe nor Asia...

Wow, that's an interesting perspective. But since I've been studying the japanese language for 3 yrs, I have to admit there seems an affinity for western culture. But I still hear most japanese (in Japan) are xenophobic, so I don't know.
