We focus on life here on earth instead of the afterlife. Here's a few opinions on the afterlife:

There's nothing about it in the Hebrew Bible, and no one has been there and returned to tell us about it. It's a post-Biblical concept borrowed from Christianity.

At the time of Christ, the Pharisees believed in an afterlife, the Saducees did not. Most Jews today would follow the Pharisaic view. Unfortunately L'Chaim JPA beat me with the web link so I won't provide one now...
Oh, and I just wanted to add that the view of an afterlife may have been borrowed from the Greek philosophers, particularly Plato (who believed that the human soul was immortal). Both Judaism and Christianity were exposed to Greek ideas after the conquests of Alexander the Great.

Well there is what is called Olam Haba which is the World to Come...but this life here on earth is much more important for Jews. Jews don't live for the World to Come, they live for this life to make it the best they can and to help out in the world.
