I know this is somewhat disgusting ?

Can you help me solve this? I have a small welsh pony in training and he recently grew in his very fuzzy winter coat (I'm in New Zealand). For some wierd reason he grew quite a bit around and on the exterior of his sheath. Now the hair keeps trapping the smegma when he drops to pee and gets all black and gross. Is this indicative of something? Is there a way to try and keep it clean besides cleaning it every week or so? Thanks!

I would say as someone else said have him clipped in that area to make it more comfortable for the poor little guy

Also, I have never done this myself but some of my friends squirt baby oil on the sheath when he sticks it out to pee, and that keeps it really clean, my friends horse is anyway, and it is a horse I used to own, its cleaner than when I had him anyway, you don't have to rub it in or anything, (thats not a pretty thought) LOL, and it stops it from getting it all scaly too which is probably a good thing too. She only does it once every few weeks not every day.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

First of all, I think that I would ring your vet, just to put your mind at rest. Clipping around the sheath area could help, but please be very, very careful ( both you and the clippers) I would certainly recommend an assistant picking up a leg ( A kick to your head would not be fun ) Once clipped, clean the sheath area thoroughly with proper cleaner and then apply a little baby oil.

I would clip him around his sheath as long as he doesnt mind it. Also, there really shouldn't be enough smegma to cause a buildup. You must keep your horses sheath clean and irritation free to not risk infection. If you're not comfortable with it you can have your vet come out and clean it for you.

Clip his belly all the way from the girth to the sheath. Here in the states there are sheath cleansers you just squirt in yourself. You could also use mineral oil. I would have the Vet do it the first time, and make sure there is no bean in there that is bothering him. Then he can show you how to do it. Good Luck with your little fella!

Hi, you may want to have your vet check him for cushings disease. one of the symptoms has to do with shedding. They will do a simple blood test and you could rule that out, also watch out with the oil on the sheath, alot of times it just keeps the dirt on. Our vet just uses ivory soap and water and rinses really well. good luck

i choose for to slap that fat woman. She asks the objective industry if every person there thinks God can do something, and then between the mothers makes her 2 babies strengthen their palms. those babies are being indoctrinated to not think of for themselves. i choose for to slap that mom additionally. i'm purely 6 minutes and 30 seconds into the action picture, and that i'm already disgusted, yet i'm particular the action picture gets a lot worse even based on the little i've got seen so some distance. LOL She says, "We have been given too many Christian grownups that are fat and lazy. they don't choose for to resign? their night meal. they don't choose for to quickly for a three day quickly or a 40 day quickly or in spite of." WTF! If those young ones and their mothers and dads think of this woman has ever given up any food, fasted, or been to a well-being club, then they're going to have faith in something. "Amen sister! Now placed the knife and fork down and stop eating little young ones you hypocrite!" solid grief! Now they are conversing in tongues! approximately 21 minutes in, slightly female prays to Jesus to help her bowl nicely and then she gets a gutter ball. i assume it purely wasn't God's will. Prayer particularly does artwork! LOL "Warlocks are enemies of God...Harry Potter could have been placed to death!" Then somebody says, "Amen!" It purely gets greater effectual and greater effectual!

I don't know if that's an indicator of any ailment but I'd suggest cleaning it and then clipping that area as it can't be very comfortable for him.
