The City of London is the original ROMAN LONDINIUM - the Square Mile. It has had a Lord Mayor since the Middle Ages.

Please note that within the city limits of the City of London - the square mile, the Lord Mayor of London takes precedence over the Monarch. In otther words, the Monarch must ask permission of the Lord Mayor before being allowed to enter the City.

We have just elected a new Mayor of London (GLA) he is Boris Johnson of the Conservative Party. His term in office will last for four (4) years, at which point there will have to be another election for the Mayor of London (GLA).

You will see the Lord Mayor's gold coach in the above video clip. Note too that the Lord Mayor of London get's a Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry. In effect he is 'King' of the City of London. The Pikemen you see walkin alongside the Gold Coach are members of the oldest regiment in the British Army - The Honourable Artillery Company.

To sum up - the City of London (the square mile) has a Lord Mayor dating back to 1189. The rest of London - Greater London, has an elected mayor, chosen by the 7.5 or so million citizens of London.

In fact London is made up of two parts, one of which is the City of London, where much of the financial centre is.
The City of London is one of the boroughs and elects a ceremonial mayor.
Boris has just been elected as the mayor for the whole of London, including many outlying areas...Bromley, Ealing etc.

normally i watch a lot of tv set but i really do love a good publication if i get into the booklet i wont put it down and i really like that i reach use my creativeness so much more than with a tv
