What medication reduces swelling for osteoarthritis?
I have swelling and pain in my left ankle caused by osteoarthritis, and I want to know what medicine will help reduce the swelling and releive the pain, which at times is so unbearable that I have to go to the hospital emergency room to get pain medication (morphine) to take the pain away. There must be something available that I can take on a daily basis to miniminze the pain and swelling. Please help me. Thank you.

Providing you don't have any blood clotting problems voltaren works really well you will have to adjust dose depending on your pain but it has been very successful, however it is not recommended for use over long periods of time, you are supposed to take a break from it which might make it not worth your while but they also make a voltaren cream, you can but low dose tablets and the cream from the chemist but a larger dose is needed on a prescription.

What about some kind of anti-inflammatory medication? Motrin, Aspirin. If the pain is that severe why don't you ask your Dr. to put you on vicoprofen. You don't need to suffer like that.
