Difference between UK 8 Ball and Black Ball?

The WPA has rules for Black Ball, but there is also a World Eight-Ball Pool Federation for Eight Ball. Are there differences between these two games or are they the same thing? If there are differences, what are they?

Also, if they are different, and I walked in to a pub/club in the UK, how would I be able to tell what game they like to play there?

There are more than you'd think i'm afraid.

Bapto rules allow you to play what they call a skill shot. That is to say that you can pot an opponents ball without giving away two shots as long as you pot one of your own balls in the same shot.

Old epa rules. This is the one still played in most pubs and clubs. http://www.epa.org.uk/rules.php

World rules. These are played in most tournaments not run by a local league,inter-league,county,on the pro tour and in internationals. A great set of rules once you get used to them.

Blackball is a fairly new version which has been developed as a combination of old epa, world rules and bapto.

It would make sense to have us all playing one set of rules.

The problem is in getting the various governing bodies to see sense and agree on a set.

The american version doesn't work on our tables from what i've been told. The different pockets and cushion make it not work.

The main thing you wanted to know was which rules are most likely to be played in a pub or club you go in.

    That would be old epa.

There's usually a set of rules on the wall near pool tables. It usually says at the top which set of rules.

I think no matter where you study it all comes down to what you will make out of it. Ive been in university for a year and a half now and I barely know anybody in my program just because I don't get involved. I am so school centred and I am trying to achieve a good average which is hard to do if I do a lot of extracurricular activities, but other than that if you forget about your average you can definitely enjoy your school life and do all these things that you mentioned :) ohh there was actually this thing last year at school they were looking for people to go to africa, australia, south america and go to small towns and villages and learn about pp.'s cultures, nature etc. which sounds AWESOME, I would totally do that but then I went to the info session and I believe the cost was (it was a lot, don't remember how much exactly it was prob more than 10 000) bc I heard it and I left :D; for a lot of those fun activities you can do you need money, and you need A LOT, which is hard to do if you are living alone or have only one parent to support you. In europe I tend to believe things like this are prob a bit cheaper :)
