Skagway or bust! What to do?
I am going on an Alaskan cruise in June with about 20 friends. Most of us are in our late 20s, early 30s, love the outdoors and love to have fun, laugh and meet new people. We don't want to follow the crowd of cruisers, we want to mix it up with some locals, learn about the land, knock back beers and seen the TRUE beauty of Alaska (i.e. the non-packaged stuff!). Any suggestions?

Read James Michener's Alaska which talks about the gold rush. Then from Skagway you can take a one day trip on a train that will take you to many of the sites mentioned in the book. You need to take food with you on the train. None provided. Also a museum in town about the gold rush.
