Do folded rear seats give better performance??
I have read on a forum that folded rear seats give a car better performance. The reasoning given was that when vertical they exert more downward force. I agree with the final statement, but I don't agree that should give any better performance. The seats still weigh the same whichever way they are folded therefore they still exert near enough the same force on the suspension and wheels. Even if there is some truth to what is being said, the difference in performance can't be that great since nowadays rear seats don't weight that much in the first place!
Anyone got any other ideas or can prove their theory right or wrong?

Seats folded down would give a lower centre of gravity, but barely noticeable.

Well, all sorts of stuff appears on forums- take it with a pinch of salt! The centre of gravity would be SLIGHTLY lower with folded seats but thats about it.
Technically speaking your car would also have better performance is you removed an old WD 40 can from the boot.
I've read similar stuff like your car uses more petrol at night because you also have to power the lights.!
Better performace yes but hardly noticeable.

Course it will mate, so will go faster strips (otherwise they would just call them stripes).
The overall weight of the car will remain unchanged hence no effect on straight line performance. People do remove the interiors of their cars as a last step in improving performance but this is to reduce overall weight. No reduction in weight equals no increase in performance

I have a car garage and once sold a car to a young man who had removed his rear seats out of a L-reg 1.2 Corsa base model speed machine, I asked him why? and he said it was to make the car faster! basically he had no friends to put in the back because he did things like that complete retard.
It won't do a thing folding down your seats, only thing is no one can seat in the back so you will go faster.

The Scorpio is now especially good value, as it tries to offer ‘lifestyle SUV’ features for an MUV price. However, it makes sense only if you have to transport eight people frequently; quality and refinement to be considered worth paying. A well-maintained Scorpio could get you a good price as a used MUV.

You failed physics in school, am I right? haha
To answer your question - yes, folded rear seats give you about +1.5 horsepower. In addition to that you might wanna turn all mirrors away from the driver, which will result in additional 10HP straight to the wheels!
Cheers ;-)

removing them all together would result in a slight better performance.. but i don't believe adjusting them in anyway would make any difference.. maybe in a cabrio, folding it; would improve aerodynamics..

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. In a nutshell: NO! It doesn't need disproving, the laws of physics are fairly predictable. I suppose I can see some people actually believing this though...
