I need some information about DVD players.?
Are there any DVD players that play not only Region 1 DVDs (I believe that's what they call DVDs sold in the U.S.) AND plays DVDs with the PAL format?

There are a lot of DVD players that play other regions too. Just ask your local electronics dealer to show you the models capable of playing other region discs.
There are methods to enable multi-region capability in many other DVD players too that play only one region (information for specific models is easily available on the net). Usually this method can create problems with your warranty.

Look at the players from Oppo Digital (http://www.oppodigital.com)/
Their upscaling DVD players can be made region free (search online for 'oppo region free code'), and can play a PAL disc while still outputting NTSC (what we use in the US). Their players can also upscale DVDs up to 1080p if you have a HDTV, and can play a very wide variety of video and audio formats.
