What is astigmatism?

The doctor says I have Astigmatism. What is astigmatism???

    Instead of your eyes seeing the one image that is in front of you, astigmatism causes it to duplicate, therefore you see double - two images that are side by side and slightly overlap.

    Astigmatism is due to an irregularity of the surface of the cornea. This irregularity distorts the image as it is projected onto the retina. It can be minor, or can cause difficulties in reading. It can be corrected by lenses. Sometimes, they used to use HARD contact lenses. The pressure of the lenses would gradually re-shape the cornea. But that's an old technique. Nowadays, they're more likely to go to Lasik (if you don't want the glasses.

    an astigmatism just means that ur eye is shaped differently then most peoples

    it's when your cornea is shaped like a football rather than a baseball, this makes it harder to focus so you need a special prescription for your glasses/contacts
