Agricultural subsidies were started during the depression years as part of Roosevelt's New Deal program. This same program started welfare payments to people needing it. Both programs have continued to this day and both have grown out of control. Farmers today depend on subsidies to stay in business. Subsidies need to be withdrawn and agriculture products be allowed to get back to supply and demand. Completely withdrawing farm subsidies at one time would put a lot of farmers out of business. Subsidies should be taken away slowly and carefully not to upset the balance.

the concept behind ag subsidies is to provide cheap food and control production thanks to the sky rocketing fuel and fertilizer prices food is going up yes it is true large farms get more money but they also take larger risks and go over more acres divide it out over the acres and the money is the same to make a long story short it is the governments way of controlling the food supply the largest problem with this system is the farmer has to learn how to farm the government to survive

it is when a large country IE u.s.a Europe

that has a lot of people and a large economy pay their farmers to grow food

when we have high world prices (as we do now)then it doesn't effect the worlds production that much but if the worlds food prices fall (as they will) then it can place food prices below the cost of production for poor country's that can't subsidise their farmers.farmers in rich country's can still export their crops as the subsidies effectively mean they can make a profit when poor farmers in poor country's can not.that and u.s.a tax payers are paying for subsidies instead of ie decent health care

  • Well I can tell you the biggest problem. The large corporate farms get most of the subsidies and the small farmer does not get diddly.
