Have you heard of the Police adding on a "fuel" surcharge to speeding violators?
http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_a/cops-slap-sp...
I think it's a great idea.
What do you think?
Like the Mayor says...to keep from
raising property taxes....the "speeders"
pay the extra fee....not everyone else.
Looks like it will be coming to a town
near you soon.

I'm not a fan of big government. But I am a big fan of personal responsibility. I think that if you have done something wrong, you have to "man up" and deal with it. If you're speeding, and you have to be chased down and pulled over, then you *should* be responsible for those costs. Since it is a cost of doing business, it should be calculated into the base price of the ticket and not be something that can be reduced in the ensuing plea bargain, as that cost doesn't change.
Breaking the law shouldn't be cheap and without penalty. Now if only we could enforce the Constitution the same way and make it expensive for the government to break the law......you set up a massive eavesdropping system and intercepted my phone calls and e-mails? Hmmm, that's not what the Constitution says the government should be doing, so you can compensate the taxpayers for the costs of those systems and everything/everyone needed to run them, including the real estate, power, cooling, taps at the telco offices and ISP facilities..etc..etc.
Hey, a patriot is still allowed to dream.....at least until the thought police implants take over there, too.....where's my tinfoil hat, honey?

I haven't heard of this particular one, but one of Nevada's favorite tickets for speeding, burnouts, etc. is 'waste of natural resources.'
They have used this for many years...I even got one back in the eighties-lol. This ticket in NV doesn't affect points as bad as the true ticket for speeding does, so they figure you'll just pay it, and not tie up the court.
Oregon doesn't have any such thing that I'm aware of. They can write a speeding ticket for 1 mph over if they so choose. Truth is though you can break almost any traffic law in OR without them even caring, even driving in the dark with no lights on. Seatbelts, and watching the cars which park at bars seems to be the only things they get ambitious about here. A seatbelt ticket is $94. They write a lot of these.
I suppose this is what the difference is of having 30+ years of Oregon having Democrats in control.
I'm expecting the announcement someday in our near future of a camera system on freeways that automatically tickets you (the car owner) for speeding without any police involvement at all. Nevada was toying with this idea 10+ years ago.

I think it's a terrible idea. I'm sick of paying the government extra money constantly. These charges are extra, hidden taxes, like inflation. In AZ, they want to put cameras along every highway. Big Brother tactics.
Why pay them extra when they waste it on bombs for wars that I don't approve? Why give them money when they will give it away to companies that poison people and make arms deals? Why give them money when they will "accidentally" lose trillions, like Rumsfeld admitted?
I don't want to give them another penny, the filthy liers!

I just heard that on the news last night. Personally I think that it's a terrific idea, I don't speed so why would I care.
Let the speeder's take care of it for the rest of us who don't speed.

Just another excuse for the local government to tax you. Let's face it, we all know they already are taxing gasoline now they want to add on another tax. I don't live there and I rarely speed anyways but can't you see it's just another way of taking your money. If they were worried about the cost of gas they could just raise the fine they were handing out already.

Yeah I heard about it, problem is most people who lead cops on chases don't have any money in the first place. It will take 5 years for them to pay back $10.

I think it is stupid
Just avoids the need to legislate a change in the fines (why are we electing those pesky lawmakers?)
Perhaps we should have a surcharge for wear on fanbelts or the paint on the police cars fading in the sun

The type of individuals who won't be able to spell "Murphy" is appalling. also, in case you extremely want to soothe the ingredient of Chaos, you should bypass right into a hearth domicile and yell "movie." keep them on their ft.
