Do only people with really bad problems see a psychiatrist?

i am goin to see one next week but i am a bit scared i am wasting there time, i dont have a sevire problem like u would expect to see if you went to a psychiatrist, is it still ok to go or will i be wasting there time? i have depression

    No, psychiatrists are not just for those with severe problems. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor, and they can prescribe medication when other forms of therapy do not achieve enough results or when someone is in danger.

    For a lot of problems a 2-pronged approach is required. Medication can be given to help take the edge off the problem, stabilize things, and get timely results. However, there are often underlying psychological issues, and you would discuss them with a psychologist or therapist. In time, when the underlying issues are resolved, you might be able to reduce or stop medication they may have prescribed, with the guidance of a psychiatrist or other medical doctor.

    No, you are not wasting your time seeing a psychiatrist, since they can prescribe an anti-depressant for the depression.
