Is there anything we can do to stop the hemorrhaging of our US economy?

It seems with credit being tightened so mightily so that the consumer can't get a loan without having a nearly perfect credit score; and with wages not keeping pace with inflation; and with the price of necessities like food, shelter and fuel rising at extreme rates; is there anything we can do to stop this death spiral?

Sure, you can stop doing what the Federal Reserve has been doing the last seven years -- i.e. creating money a lot faster than real economic growth. economic contractions are all about deleveraging. It's a necessary phase that economies go through periodically (last real one was early 90s). What the Fed is doing (and you're implicitly asking for) is to treat a hangover with another round of drinks.
