You don't change a culture by making laws that take away their freedom of choice. What they are trying to do is unconstitutional. How do they get away with it? WE LET THEM!!! What they are trying to do is like taking your child to the candy store every day and telling them that they can't have any candy. If people want to eat fatty, sugary, salty food, then they will eat it. You can buy it at the grocery store anyway.

These people will be fat no matter what laws are passed. How dumb are our politicians? Do they think we are cattle to be herded away from the feed trough? Won't we just drive to the next trough?

Yes. People should have the willpower to eat right or seek help. No one is forcing them to eat at these places. If consumers would stop being led like cows to the slaughter and started making informed choices about what they eat, wear, buy, etc. There wouldn't be an issue. I don't think government should act like a parent and protect people from themselves. Those without voices, yes -- children, animals and the environment. Righting injustices and inequalities -- yes. But outlawing certain foods and substances. No. I understand requiring full disclosure of calories, health risks, ingredients. But after the information is out there for all to see, it becomes a personal choice and responsibility for each person. If people didn't buy fast and junk food, the restaurants wouldn't stay open. If people demanded healthier options, they would be sold.

If they ban the restaurant based on aesthetic reasons it makes sense. Its a means of protecting your investment specifically the property of the house you own. Too much traffic equals lower property value / devaluation. The reasoning the article gives is I think unconstitutional. The food served at McDonalds and the like is not bad for you but the quantity and frequency of eating such foods is what does the damage.

Mike hit the nail on the head. Freedom necessitates responsibility and people are highly irresponsible with freedom anymore. Ignorance and stupidity prevent them from seeing past the nose on their face. This is exhibited in many aspects of society. We have anti this or that but seldom seen and even less seldom heard is the pro-responsibility advocate.

It is going too far. However, you still have the freedom to eat whatever you want, it is just less convenient to get it. I think the stupid american mentality of blame-everyone-by-myself is to blame. Obese people need to take responsibility for their own health and quit blaming the fast food chains. Sure it's not healthy food, but did anyone ever seriously believe it was healthy? It's convenient, fast, and filling. Most of it is not healthy. It's not being shoved down your throat. People choose to eat it, and if they do so, they should be responsible for the choices they make.

    Another link.

Yes you have the freedom to eat what you want, but as long as its healthy.

I'm for this new idea, I would've also liked to seen smoking being tackled the same way, but thats far from reality.

People are too concerned with their freedom rather then whats actually good for them.

This will help curb the obesity epidemic and force people to adopt healthier eating habits. I consider that a good thing.

However I can see why not everyone is happy about it. Fast-food is simply convenient to those of us who only have 30 minute lunch breaks.

I don't think they should have so man;y restaraunts in one area... and putting the calories of those meals up is not really going to matter to the folks who eat that garbage.. it's not like they are getting rid of the restaraunts, and if they did that would be wrong imo

It is too far, but I can see the reason behind it. If people worked out and enjoyed training like I do then there would be no need of these bans.

im actually shocked they actually care about peoples health problems. The money people spend becuase of their health is crazy, im super surprised.

but yea...i agree, people should be responsible for their own health, everyone shouldnt have to pay.
