Quad Core - worth it?
Are the new quad cores worth the investment? Son will be using it for games; Halo, Command & Conquer series, surfing the Internet and so forth. Or go with a beefy Duo core and up the graphics card to 512 mb or 1 GB and use more RAM?
I know that most of the software available now doesn't fully utilize the Quad, that's part of my dilemma!

Multicore processors are not fully utilized in most games, so if gaming is your thing, get the duo and spend the difference in a powerful graphic card, that is the main hardware component when speaking about games, A good amount of RAM helps too.

Alienware makes an excellent gadget. even if it is no longer properly well worth the money; they are capitalizing on their promotion presence. What they extremely do is take off-the-shelf factors you should purchase everywhere and placed them right into a custom case. massive deal. like the different guy suggested, Dell severe-end laptops are the shitz. HP severe-end too. when you're searching for a gaming computer assume to spend about 2 grand and be effective the video card is DirectX 10.

quad is NOT worth the extra money unless you can buy it for what a dual core costs. very few applications and NO GAMES have been written for a quad core. unless you do a LOT of multi-tasking a quad is a waste of money. get an E8500 or an X2 6400+...
