Can any atheist prove that there is no GOD?

Atheism declares "no GOD" can any atheists offer concrete absolute proof that there is no being anywhere in the universe that fits the description of GOD?

Update:

So your stance is not that there is no GOD, it's simply that you will not believe there is a GOD until someone proves it to you, is that right?

Trying really hard to understand, but its tough to sort through the insults and find the logic.

I am new to talking to Atheist.. do they cast insults everytime they defend their position? Or am I just lucky :)

Update 2:

No I dont mean a Christian GOD.

Atheism is making a positive statement.

The word literally means that there is no chance of there being any GOD.

The word Atheism is very specific in its root and meaning.

No GOD in the declarative sense.

When a person says they are an Atheist they are saying that they have proven that there is no GOD in existence.

Its not the counter to a christian arguement.. its the declaration of a discovered fact.

My question is what proof does and atheist have of this conclusion?

Or do atheist just declare that they have not yet found proof to the contrary?

Please be serious, I am writing this for a paper.

    hi :)

okay, im an atheist and i am dedicated to studying religion.

im currently a student but most of my time is spent reading the bible or one of richard dawkin's fantastic books!

    in answer to your question,

no i can not prove there is a god and i dont think ANY atheist can!

however, just on the point of proving "god's" existance... can you or ANY religious person prove there is a god? or the god YOU are thinking of?

nobody is born religious, it is something taught to you.

i decide to make the decision for myself, regardless of people's talk.

i look at the facts, figures, evidence (or lack there of i should say) and weigh up the odds.

when i was young i grew up in a private school where a majority of the students attending where born into either catholic or christian families.

I never really believed, i found it all quite funny and a load of pathetic nonsense.. (good story though!)

it wasn't until i got a bit older that i started to realise that people, not just my age but older, actually believed that sh*t. That is when i started to research religion, looking at every aspect, not just an atheist's view.

I find it rather sad that I, at the tender age of just 14, knew in my mind that there was no god. (Thanks be to study and realistic thinking) However, a large majority of the world, including "mature" adults actually believe such stupid things.

I thought we were an advanced species, but im guessing not!

good luck with your paper :)

The burden of proof is on the person making the positive claim. I tell you that I was abducted by invisible time traveling aliens and they then returned me in time to the exact moment of my abduction so no one would notice. Can you conclusively prove that I wasn't? Do you have to prove that I wasn't to not believe it? Keep in mind that what ever ideas you might have that could possibly disprove me I will probably just come up with something to explain away and you also won't be able to check my assertions, such as they have this or that capability that keeps you from detecting them. I rather think that its clear I am the one with the burden of proof to prove my claim and it wouldn't be unreasonable to not believe in light of absence of evidence for a far out claim.

by god i assume you mean that of the christian text?. the bible!, i think most scholars come up with a 6000 year time scheme.

ie starting with that busy 6 day's and then Adam and Eve. so 6 maybe 7000 year's old. Well even my 8 year old son knows carbon dating and science have proven that T-Rex died over 65 million year's ago, and that man in it's current form is over 60,0000 year's old, so while i can not, and would not out of human respect try too argue against faith, the science is well proven when it come too the stories of the bible.

Err can you solidly without NO POSSIBLE DOUBT prove there is a God? No. So an atheist can not disprove what a Christian can not prove.

    >.> Don't ask stupid questions you will just end up looking like an idiot.

There is two sides to a fence, so you tell me. Can you prove to me that God exists and atheists are wrong? and by that I mean solid proof .

well think about it, can you prove to me fully that there is a man in the sky that has all the aswers??? ..no, simple.

science is really the only thing that finds the truth fully, oh hail the microscope

the burden of proof remains for the claiming party (you). It is impossible to unprove something that theoretically doesn't exist. think about it and you will understand. Your answer is no.

no more than you cannot prove that there is not a small teacup orbiting the sun. of course, you'd probably think i was stupid if i insisted there was, let alone if i decided to start worshipping...wait... never mind
