What is Fondant? Some one asked it is sold pre-made?

Someone just asked if some place makes it premade? I don't have a clue what it is?

Ever see a wedding cake with super-smooth icing? You can't get that kind of look with buttercream. Fondant is a sugary paste (more like a dough) that you can roll out into sheets to put on cakes. You can also shape it into balls, or flowers (anything you want).

It is good for getting a lot of control in terms of the design of your cake, but it doesn't taste as good as regular icing (IMHO).

I know Michaels sells it pre-made (I think Wilton makes it) in the cake decorating section. Other hobby stores and kitchen stores should also have it.

Fondant is the confection people use to cover cakes, such as wedding cakes, and to make edible pieces to decorate cakes with. Yes, you can by the Fondant premade at stores (even at Walmart in the craft section/section where wedding favors are found). Fondant is a little expensive, especially if you have to cover a lot, but it you only need a little, go for it! I hope everything works out for you :)

Fondant is what cake makers use to make shapes and or cover cakes with it. It is sort of like a candy that is bendable see link. Yes you can get it premade. Wiltons makes some but it is nasty! I am looking for a good fondant if you hear of one e-mail me.

It's icing with a play-dough-like consistency used to cover elegant cakes. It is yucky as hell, but looks amazing if smoothed out right. If you ever see a perfectly smooth wedding cake, it is most likely covered in fondant.

Its a type of icing that you have to roll out and lay over the cake...you shape and mold it to form fit to the cake...kind of like a modeling clay (LOL), except that it is edible (LOL) ..... and yes you can order it or buy it...
