Sims 2 Apartment Life, problems with moving objects from the hallway?

So you had a successful date, and the sim wants to properly thank you for having a great time. They drop an item off at the doorway into the apartment. Now you want to move it inside your apartment. But you can't. Even the "moveobjects on" doesn't work. Help. The item is blocking the other tenants from going to work.

The first time I experienced it I just chalked it down to the fact that the sim itself was blocked and the moveobject on cheat was applied to the sim itself to move her out of the way to complete the action. I had to subsequently move my sim family entirely out of the building and bulldoze the lot to clear the error. But it happened again, in a different building and the sim did not get trap from the action.
