Does R.E.I. require new employees to take a drug test?
I am a regular and proud pot smoker, but i can stop for and detox if need be. i have to go in to REI by the end of the week to fill out some paperwork, and im not sure if i'll be asked to provide a piss sample in conjunction with that (or worse, hair sample.). does anyone know if they make you provide a drug test? if i show up positive for weed (and only weed, i dont do anything else) will i have my employment revoked?
im inclined to think they dont, its a pretty eco-green crowd, nature, outdoor types, probalby smoke pot themselves. does anyone know for sure?
current and former employees answers preferred, but anything will work.

I've never worked there but heres what I did for you REI im guessing you mean the outdoor equipment camping store place. Cool place but what I did was look up a number to one of their stores and then I called one of my friends, she works as a human resources manager at a huge retail store so I had her call the store to see if they do drug tests and the answer was no. So I wouldn't worry about it so much. She called the store in Charlotte, NC.

If your business is one that is regulated by the government, you should be able to find out from the regulatory agency what kind of testing, if any, is required. I don't believe there is any general requirement that employees be tested for drugs. It's usually the employer that wants it, unless it is a job affecting public safety.
