Why did it take me so long to see my mom in a dream?

My mother passed away in early May this year. She was about to turn 61 later that month, but died unexpectedly. When her parents (whom I was also very close to) passed away, I began to see them in my dreams right away--the same thing with deceased pets. But only recently have I finally seen my mother in a dream. I wonder why it took so long and until then, I was wondering if I would ever see her in a dream period. Any thoughts on this?

It's strange how dreams work. I'm not sure why exactly it took so long to see your mom in a dream, but I have wondered similar things about my own dreams and this is what I came up with. In 2001 I lost my father, and since then I've had only 7 dreams with him present. The first one happened about a month after his death. All of them were different, and they all felt much more real than most dreams I have. In some of them I knew he was gone, and others it was like he was still alive. I can't explain why, and I wish that he was in every dream of mine because they are so real that it's like I'm actually with him. But now I just enjoy them when they happen. Every person is different and your brain is an immensely complex thing. Hopefully you see your mother in your dreams more, but I don't think anybody could answer exactly why it took so long.

You dream about things that your mind is confused about and trying to solve. Maybe your relationship with your mother was nice until the end so you didn't have anything to dream about. However you have been thinking about her a lot lately so you got your dream.
