My cat has turned into a little trouble maker, help!!!?

Please I don't know what to do anymore. My cat won't stop trying to tear up my blinds! She did it alot when I 1st brought her home about 6 months ago so I started leaving them up about a foot and a half so she could see outside. She then left the blinds alone until about a week ago, now she gets up on her hind legs and just for whatever reason tears them up. I am at the point where I need new blinds but I don't want to get them just yet until I can solve this problem. I have tried yelling at her, I even gave her a smack on the rear end a couple of times and she still does it. She knows she is not supposed to because as soon as I say anything she stops and runs and hides under the table. I let her outside when she starts doing it and all she does is sit outside the door and cry until I let her back in. Then she waits until I settle down and starts right up again. I've tried giving her attention, holding her and petting her when she does it, and she is really happy with me but as soon as I set her down she goes right to those dang blinds again. Please help I don't know what to do.

Update:

The cat is 3 years old. I drape the string over the top of the blinds way out of reach of the cat. The blinds are on french doors with windows that go almost to the floor. Drapes are not really an option. Giving her attention was a last ditch effort after I tried everything else, thinking maybe her terrorizing the blinds was a call for attention. But I won't do that anymore, thanks.

Update 2:

Declawing her is not an option. Personally I am against that, but either way there are alot of opossums and raccoons where I live and I don't want to take away her only way to defend herself.

Try spraying her with water. It worked with my cats. When they did something I didn't want them to do I got the spay bottle and they finally stopped doing it. Good luck!

NEVER, never physically discipline a cat by smacking them! She still does not know you do not want her tearing up your blinds- what she knows is that when you act in a certain way she's going to get a smack. That's why she runs & hides. If you continue to use physical discipline she'll just avoid you altogether.

Cats & dogs think nothing alike. Unlike dogs, cats don't do things like you describe for attention. They do what they do for a good reason - even if we don't "get it".

Since your blinds are already shot, get some double sided sticky tape (most pet stores carry it) & load 'em up with it. Cats hate sticky stuff, works like a charm. When you replace them try the heavy, faux wood type blinds.

Meanwhile...your cat sounds like she'd like a tall scratching post that she can stretch out & use. Until she gets the idea put it right in front of the area she's clawing inappropriately at even if it looks strange. If you clap your hands every time she claws at the blinds & toss her a treat every time she uses the post she'll get the idea with time.

    Good luck!

What you're doing is actually positively reinforcing the behavior. She's trying to wreck your blinds and you give her attention which is actually a reward. Instead, tried to discourage her from playing with your blinds by spraying her in the face with a water bottle or startling her with a noisemaker (you can put some coins in an empty soda can). If she still doesn't leave that area alone, you might have to look into cat repellents and training mats. Only give her attention if you see that she's leaving your blinds alone. Good luck!

Is this cat still a kitten? If so, this can be the reason why she is doing this. She's playing. She probably likes the string that hangs down from it (cats LOVE strings). Try going for for some cheap curtains or shades and see if she stops. I bet that's what it is.

in the beginning, you somewhat only have 2 selections. a million) save them aside from one yet another (thoroughly) till Jan 5. 2) Get one in all them fixed quicker. Your cats ARE the right age to reproduce, and in the event that they do it is going to likely be VERY undesirable (think of a preggo 10-3 hundred and sixty 5 days-previous.. that's what you will possibly need in the journey that your kitten gets pregnant at this age) Please stay away from. in case you could desire to attend till Jan 5 (they're the right age to restoration now) save them separate. Confine one in all them to 2 rooms with a litterbox and nutrition, and enable the different have the the remainder of the domicile (you could change them off so all of them get to be around people PLEASE do no longer enable them to mate. Sorry, there are not the different mind-blowing recommendations. in the event that they're 4 a million/2 months and showing indicators of prepared to mate... they'll mate and she or he would be in a position to get pregnant... which would be very very undesirable. you could desire to maintain them separated. BTW.. having the vet spey a pregnant cat will frequently value extra and be extra risky. only save her thoroughly faraway from her brother till they're fixed. in the event that they're the two fixed Jan 5.. they do no longer might desire to be separated after that.. despite if a male can nevertheless have some sperm and get a woman pregnant for each week after neutering, the female if speyed will have not any ovaries or uterus.. so there' sno way she would be in a position to get preggo... that answerer desires to study some biology.
