Soy formula has no nutritional advantage over milk-based formula and vice versa. Both are fortified with the same vitamins and minerals. Usually parents choose soy formula when their baby is sensitive or allergic (or potentially so) to cows' milk protein, or when a baby is having trouble digesting lactose or milk sugar.
Be sure to buy whole soy milk, not the low-fat or nonfat versions, because fat is important for brain development in children under 2. (If your child has a family history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or obesity, however, her doctor may recommend beginning low-fat milk at an earlier age.) Make sure the soy milk you choose is fortified with vitamin A, vitamin D, and calcium. Soy milk contains phytates that are naturally occurring substances found in whole-grain foods, legumes, and nuts that can reduce the absorption of calcium and other minerals.
Also because soy milk is made from plants, it doesn't have any vitamin B12, which is found only in animal foods (including cow's milk). Pouring soy milk over a bowl of vitamin-fortified cereal is a good way to ensure that your child starts the day with the right nutrients after 6 months.

Soy milk? Or soy formula? Formula is fine, soy milk has absolutely nothing that a newborn baby needs. Do not give a 6 week old baby anything other than breastmilk or formula.
**EDITED:
Soy formula is fine. There are some people who are trying to prove that is causes many things. But, if you have a baby with lactose issues, and you don't breastfeed, you don't have too many other options. Personally, if I were to use formula, I would use soy. If you are concerned, speak to your pediatrician, they will know more than anyone here.

My baby is cows milk protein intolerant and I was told to put her on Soy.
1 Soy is an allergen as much as CMP
2. Roxanne is right, soy can mimic estrogen inthe body and cause early puberty in some cases (can cause males to show femine traits - maybe why we have so many gay people now)
Goats milk FORMULA is a much better option
I went back to breastfeeding and opted for an amino based formula (it breaks down the cows milk protein).

Breast milk is the best thing for babies. Second to that is milk based formula. Soy formula is only recommended if the baby is having trouble digesting the milk proteins. Animal proteins (like in breast/cows milk) are composed differently and have different nutrients than plant proteins (like soy).
All of that being said. Soy formula is not bad for your baby. It will however, make your baby's poop and spit up smell terrible.

Babies need formula. It is fortified with the proper vitamins and nutrients for a baby. You can get a soy based formula if you feel you must but no milk, soy or other wise.

At that age, they can't digest the milk, and will get very little nutritional benefit from it. If it's their sole form of food, they will become malnourished, and in worst case, could starve to death.
Soy formula is different, and some babies need to have it due to medical conditions. It's usually modified so that babies can digest it.

if you chose not to breastfeed and your baby is not doing well on artificial milk, please consider beginning to bf now. it is not too late to try.
if you wont try that, then maybe research goat milk formulations. processed soy can mimic estrogen inthe body and cause early puberty in some cases.

All i heard that can be bad with formula is that the baby can get constipated.. thats about it.
