Name some really cool horror movies.?

I'd like something off the beaten track, so if you're naming something from hollywood- Forget it! I haven't seen a good one coming from there in more than a decade, and the best seem to be low quality remakes of excellent Spanish or Asian films.

So, what say you? Any good movies around that I haven't heard about?

Thanks

Update:

Thanks Candy, but not very "off the beaten track" are they? And unless you're refering to "Ringu" and "Chakushin ari",wich I think you're not, the Ring and one missed call, are just poorly made remakes of awesome movies. Bear in mind, my first language isn't English, and I'm extremely confortable with sub-titles.

So, let's have some more...

Update 2:

Jolly Green: I've seen all of those, Anatomie is reasonable, although Franka Potente didn't do a great part, Thesis is Spanish and very good, Das experiment is a trully awesome movie, hats off to you, but more thriller than horror. As you can see, I'm not easy to please, but I like your taste. Thanks!

Any more?

Update 3:

Missmiss: El orfanato, another Spanish movie- haven't seen it, but it looks promising, I love Spanish horror. Thanks for a good sugestion.

Any more?

Update 4:

Didoman- the most recent movie yo have on your list is "The wicker man" from 1973. I do love a good classic, but it's not what I'm looking for right now. You do seem to have good knowledge about movies. Why don't you try to wow me with a great one that I don't know about. How about some gore?

Update 5:

Jolly Green- yes 28 days is British, I've seen it and liked it, not scary, but fun to watch and gory, a good choice for a lazy day.

Update 6:

Hi cheergirl, thanks for the input, haven't seen the Black christmas remake, but the 1974 original was ok. I was trying to find a movie called "the decent" but all I found was the mediocre " The descent" that as a movie was fairly entertaining, but for someone who read "The Descent" by Jeff Long, and was eager for a big screen adaptation, it was the disapointment of a lifetime.

Anatomie (Dissection) is a German horror film with Franka Potente as the heroine, she was Matt Damon's squeeze in the first Bourne.

Tesis (Thesis) is a foreign film (can't remember the country...) about snuff. Way, way, way, better than 8mm (8mm is not a remake).

Das Experiment is another from our Kraut friends, it's about a prison experiment with volunteer convicts and guards that goes out of control. It is based on a real event.

All these are available on DVD at my local rental shop, you may also be able to find a big chain that stocks them.

28 Days Later is a British film (I'm British), and it is very good.

I agree with you that Hollywood horror has stiffed in recent years. Just as violence should be violent and sex should be erotic, horror should be horrifying.

The Older version of 28 weeks later, I think it might be the japanese version, or chinese? Something like that.

Oh and One Missed Call- Japanese or chinese or whatever version.

Or Maybe The Movie "I know what you did last summer" not as scary, kinda funny though.

    The Decent is good.

    Black Christmas, absolutely terrifying.
