If a person kills someone that has already committed murder, what is that person guilty of?

I have to do an essay for school where I construct a defense, prosecution, and verdict. It is about Sanger Rainsford's killing of General Zaroff in the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell.

That person too, is just as guilty of murder. It depends on the context, as to what degree of murder though. Was it self defense, premeditated, etc. This would be the focal point of your defense and prosecution, and of course the out come... verdict.

I haven't read the story, but if it was premeditated, then it was murder of the first degree. Unless, of course, they're a cop trying to catch him, or a person acting in self-defense.

    The same laws basically apply.

Well, it would depend how and on what basis he killed the murderer on. If it was accidental, manslaughter. If it was vengeance, murder. If it was self-defense, innocence.
