Yu-Gi-Oh! Rulling question on Gorz.?

Hi people.

Please read this first: Since i am in vacation i am using the internet of lan cafes, but i can't guaranty i will be 100% back within 3 days to vote for a best answer.

Till now i have always voted someone so 10pts are given but this time know that if you reply despite my best intentions i might not be able to. In case this happens and you replied i apologize.

Now with the question.

The new card of Gorz saying that he can be summoned if you control no cards and you sub stain damage (battle or effect).

However if you have only "Messenger of peace" or something similar, and your opponent attacks you with "Clif, the trap remover" destroying your cover card... do you get to summon Gorz if he was in your hand or it was absolute that you had no cards under your control before the action that caused you damage started?

Same question different example: If i only control Gellenduo and my opponent activates a direct damage effect, (so Gellenduo dies for it's effect leaving me without cards under my control), do i get to summon Gorz or not?

    1. No. You can't. Gorz is a Quick Effect, which are Spell Speed 2's, and Cliff, the Trap Remover is a Continuous Effect, which is a Spell Speed 1. So Gorz's effect will chain Cliff's.

    Example of this chain:

Chain Link 1: Cliff the Trap Remover

Chain Link 2: Gorz Emissary of the Darkenss

    Normal Results:

    Chain Link 2 resolves

    Chain Link 1 resolves after

    But:

Gorz's effect cannot resolve because you have a card

Cliff's effect resolves and destroys the Spell or Trap Card.

    2. Same answer as question 1.

    Guellenduo is Spell Speed 1.

    Gorz is Spell Speed 2.

    So this is what happens:

Gorz: cannot resolve due to Guellenduo

    Gellenduo: resolves

For both of your questions if that card is gone you can wait the next time you take damage.

This is what a Quick Effect monster is a monster that does this:

Negates Trap, Spell or Monster Effects

    Examples of Monsters:

Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 8

    Stardust Dragon

Activates it's effect during your opponent's turn saying on the card's effect "you can activate this card during either player's turn" or anything that is written that.

    Examples of Monsters:

    Kuriboh

    D.D. Crow

    It activates when you....

    Examples of Monsters:

    Gorz, Emissary of the Darkness

A Continuous Effect Monster can be like:

Effects that keep going and say or sometimes not say "as long as this card remains face-up..."

    Examples:

    Jinzo

    Mirage Dragon

Effects that change it's ATK and DEF values:

    Exmaples:

    Dark Magician Girl

    Batteryman Charger

    The Calculator

    and may more...

With the exception of monsters like Divine Dragon - Excellion
