Repetition but not more than 30 minutes in a session. Then give them a break otherwise it just becomes noise to the bird. Some pick up over time some never do.

Budgies don't have a huge vocabulary. Around 200-300 words. But make sure he is wanting, and excited, then start the talking. If he makes a beep or any type of sound, say something in return. This encourages him to talk more. Repetition is essential. Also, make sure he likes you. You don't want to learn to do anything from someone you hate do you?

The trick with teaching any bird to talk is patience!
First off focus on one word.. Like Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays
Whenever you walk by your feathered friend repeat the word (have other family members and guests help out with this part too!)
As time goes on the bird will learn new words quicker!
P.S it also helps to have you bugie in a popular family room that way it can pick up on words!

I agree with everything Decora wrote. My own bird prefers male voices over female but she would not let a man near her!
