AMD Phenom 9750 vs. Intel Q6600?

I am building a comp that will run games and AutoCAD 2009. I knwo the AMD 9750 or Intel Q6600 will run CAD with no problem but i need to know if its a good processor to run games with.

I knwo this thing is a power hog.

SO far my comp has:

Thermaltake V9

ASUS M3N-HT motherboard

GTX 260 core GeForce card

2 memory sticks at 1066

2 wd 500 HDD

22x cd/dvd/+-rw

Thermaltake 750w PS 80+

With this build a good comp for gaming and CAD????

Anyone know of a MOBO that will run the new Phenom II?

If AMD is smart they wont do what Intel did with there new i7 and make it have a board all its own

There's two versions of the Phenom II, once that is 65nm and can fit in AM2+ slots and the 45nm which is designed for the AM3 slot. The AM3 slot is the only one that can use DDR3 in tri channel. Out of those two processors your still probably better off with the Q6600 and just overclock it.

Netra its not about whose on top in todays age the money is made by who can give the most on a budget.

The i7 is by far the most impressive processor to date, and in order to make a definitive step forward it uses only the most recent technologies. This is comparable to the way that Windows XP dropped alot of legacy support for Windows 95 and 98 programs, it was to force us to embrace the future. Being as new as the i7's are, it doesn't have many manufacturers, so boards are still expensive. That's why Intel isn't downplaying it's Core 2 line yet. Give it a year.

As for the other computers, the AMD Phenom series will perform better (marginally) in CAD than the Intel C2Q, but the C2Q will perform substantially better in gaming. Of course, at these high levels of performance, the difference is truly negligible for now. It will be another year or two before software performance has caught up to these technologies and made the difference noticeable.

Source(s): A+ Certification, Works with all of the above mentioned processors (Including i7!!! exciting :) )

Heres some benchmarks comparing the 2 cpus:

Actually Intel will have more chipsets for the i7 and Nvidia will be coming out with their versions of i7 boards too. LGA1366 is brand new. Just like there are a ton of different chipset boards for LGA775 the same will apply for the LGA1366.

AMD AM3 boards are supposed to come out in February.

You have an AMD MoBo listed.....Therefore I would go with the AMD CPU.....

(**AMD has more bang for the $**)
