Jews, Christians & bible scholars, the invasion of Prophet of Islam & his army?

was describe by 7th century Christian, John Bar Penkay with the following words,

"Now when these people came, at Gods command, and took over as it were both kingdoms, not with any war or battle, but in a menial fashion, such as when a brand is rescued out of the fire, not using weapons of war or human means, God put victory into their hand in such a way that the words written them might be fulfilled

So what was he trying to say, when he called them a brand rescued out of the fire?

P.S. it was hard to ignore the similarity between how the phrase brand rescued from the fire is also used in Zech 3:2 to describe a priest in the Bible.

Update:

seemorebetter: John Bar Penkay... Was doing what you and I are Doing ....Using scripture...Nothing Prophetic , Please Note.....

(Zechariah 3:2) Then [the angel of] Jehovah said to Satan: “Jehovah rebuke you, O Satan, yes, Jehovah rebuke you, he who is choosing Jerusalem! Is this one not a log snatched out of the fire?”

Hi seemorebetter, please note the brand rescued from the fire in Zech 3 is the future priest, he is dressed in clean clothes and a stone is shown to him with seven eyes. Satan is rebuked.

Update 2:

Whole Army of God, the question was, what was John trying to say?

Update 3:

Maars, the quote is from John Bar Penkaye, the 7th century Syrian monk, describing the Islamic Arab invasion of the Eastern Roman Empire. I was asking what was he trying to say about the Arabs, in which he also calls them a brand plucked from the fire. Your post was very helpful. I agree John was not speaking for God, but just expressing an opinion. thanks.

Kind of hard to understand exactly what you are saying but will say this: that like Joshua was a brand plucked out of the fire, so those who are purified are like this and they are able to win victories because they are a tool in the hand of the Lord.

But as for Islam, it is not a true religion so I would not take seriously what it says in the Quran. The Jews are God's Chosen people but they go through much purification because their hearts have not been turned to God. They may be very religious but they refuse to read the new Testament and this is where it tells about their Messiah who already came and died for their sins and rose again and will come again.

Great post :) I keep reading in this forum that apparently Jesus is a 'jewish prophet' - news to me!!! I think there are several reasons why this keeps happening: 1 - people confuse Judaism with Islam. Muslims do view Jesus as a prophet 2 - people assume that just because Jesus was Jewish, and because Christianity reveres him, then so must we - clearly, this is faulty logic The accurate answer is that Jews are *indifferent* to Jesus. He's about as relevant to us as Mohammed is - that is to say, NOT relevant in the slightest. Why some people take this FACT as an 'insult', I simply don't understand! There is a small group of Christians on this site who keep hijacking posts directed at Jews; they then deliberately give the WRONG information, and insist that Jewish theology is the same as Christian theology. Well, they are NOT. Personally, I'm really bored with this particular group; I wouldn't dream of telling Christians that I understand their faith 'better' than they do - yet Christians KEEP emailing me and saying precisely this! They are seriously deluded. If only this group could learn from our Pagan friends; now they really DO understand Judaism and they offer accurate and interesting responses to posts on Jewish theology.

(Zechariah 3:2) Then [the angel of] Jehovah said to Satan: “Jehovah rebuke you, O Satan, yes, Jehovah rebuke you, he who is choosing Jerusalem! Is this one not a log snatched out of the fire?”

(Jude 9) 9 But when Mi′cha‧el the archangel had a difference with the Devil and was disputing about Moses’ body, he did not dare to bring a judgment against him in abusive terms, but said: “May Jehovah rebuke you.. . .

(Luke 9:42) . . .Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy and delivered him to his father.

(Mark 1:25) 25 But Jesus rebuked it, saying: “Be silent, and come on out of him!”

(Jude 23) 23 save [them] by snatching [them] out of the fire. But continue showing mercy to others, doing so with fear, while YOU hate even the inner garment that has been stained by the flesh.

  • The writer thought he knew what he was talking about-- but Islam is not "a brand rescued from the fire." The context of Zechariah 3 is clear about that.

It was common for people to use Biblical allusions in describing daily happenings then throughout society.

Islam did not come "at God's command."

Drop all these old crap believes and live a better life.

These believes are just some old people's stories taken too far by people.

it has no reference to the bible or that verse what so ever.

Islam has nothing to do with the bible nor was it ever mentioned in the bible or referred to.
