How to get rid of poison ivy and vines?
During the summer, I noticed that four of my trees have been invaded by poison blackberries, poison ivy, and poison oak vines. To add to the matter, there is a wasp's nest. It is the reason I need to tackle this project while it is cold.
I've read how to protect myself and how to dispose of the poison stuff. And I've tackled a wasp nest during the winter before. I just don't know how to start with the thorns and poison. Do I spray with herbicide first, or do I clip at the bottom and pull them out the trees?

You have answered your own question ! You clip at the bottom and then start pulling. Its that simple. The herbicide is useless this time of year and after you cut them off at the roots you should try to dig up most of the roots. Then you will have no need for herbicide. Since you have researched how to protect yourself you are all set to start. Good luck to you on your project.

Ugh.
You might want to try to get the poison ivy away from your trees first. I normally don't recommend herbicides, but this is one time when I'm willing to break out the Round-Up.
Good luck!

Spray first. Careful just to get the vines and not the trees. wait until it starts dying back. pull as much out as you can and then spray again.

Be very careful of this stuff...alive or dead, it is poisonous..do NOT burn the wastes, for the smoke can kill you or anyone else who breathes it!
Spray, allow to die, then glove up and remove. AS for the wasp's nest, you ant and wasp spray...
