Why isnt the surround sound working?

Hey all,

I recently bought the logitech x540 5.1 speakers. I've connected it, listened to music using surround sound, and also played games in surround sound. When I put in a movie (borat), in surround sound, using the matrix mode, i could not hear any of the voices, yet i could hear everything else. When i put it NOT in matrix mode, it only functioned through the center, and side speakers.

Btw, Im watching on a pc. Could this be due to the speakers? dvd drive? or the dvd? or the program i watch dvds with? please help me resolve this problem,

Invert

sounds like it might be that the 5.1 codec's for the media player might be missing(WMP)

or it could be that in sound properties that you might not have it set to 5.1 but to PCM 44 or 48

i would check the player first. the other things(games etc, suggest it has to be the player)
