Pet owners...best method to get rid of fleas..?

I have 3 cats that are indoor and outdoor. I used frontline but I have fleas in the basement to get rid of. 2000 sq ft. as well as 2000 sq ft upstairs. I have bombed twice but the fleas are still coming back. Any suggestions? I do have some carpeted areas upstairs as well as hard floors. Do flea traps work at all?

When it comes to controlling fleas and ticks, FRONTLINE Brand Products are the #1 recommendation of veterinarians for flea and tick control for dogs and cats.

FRONTLINE Plus offers long-lasting flea and tick control, killing up to 100% of fleas on your pet within 18 hours and up to 100% of ticks on your pet within 48 hours. Best of all, research confirms that FRONTLINE products work for an entire month to help keep your pet flea-free.

    • FRONTLINE Plus flea control lasts longer than the #2 product.* In a head-to-head test, over half the dogs treated with the #2 product had fleas after just one week, while the dogs treated with FRONTLINE Plus showed no signs of fleas.

    • Continuously, and quickly, kills fleas for an entire month.

    • Truly waterproof even after swimming and bathing.

    • Vet's #1 choice for long-lasting flea and tick protection.

    • Gentle enough to use on puppies and kittens 8 weeks of age or older without weight restrictions.

    • Approved for use on pregnant or nursing mothers (approved for FRONTLINE Plus and Top Spot® only).

I did a rescue in September & fostered Samson & Morris for about a month. As a (stupid) quick fix, I used Hartz on them. Luckily, I ended up stumbling across how HORRIBLE Hartz is & was able to wash them immediately. Since they had already been dosed though, I was advised to wait a month before medicating them again with less lethal & more effective medicine. Therefore, I had to live with the fleas! I did routine combings & warm baths with Dawn soap every 3 days & it really helped, but the carpet seemed to just attract the fleas. I bought a spray from the vet & just sprayed it all over, rented a steam vacuum, washed all linens & then sprayed again, put the linens on & then sprayed one more time. It was about a two day process, however, it did the trick, really. Exterminators may work, but they're expensive & will only release many chemicals into your home. Good luck.

Go see your vet. They have safe end effective medicated shampoo's and medication that can get rid of them quickly. It is best to use flea/tick prevetion medication to help control it if you live in an area where fleas/ticks live. There are monthly applications you can buy from your vet to put on your pet that repels fleas/ticks, they can show you how to do it so it does not cause harm to your pet from the pet licking it off (which is dangerous and toxic!). Fleas can "jump" onto other pets also, so treat everyone in your house and make sure to "bomb" your house (don't know specifics on this one) to get them out of your carpet and furniture etc. Some OTC flea meds can help but not always as effective. Call your vet to ask.

I think it's sand fleas down in Miami and those are hardest to get rid of. Ok, well to keep your girl's skin from drying out, use baby soap or shampoo. It's great for her skin and coat, and it's non-toxic to them. It has the added bonus of working just like an Ivory bath, just without taking the natural protective oils from her skin and fur. That should help with the fleas, too. As for worms, try a pinch (very small, mind you!) of tobacco flakes on her food. Should clear them right up. However, before doing so, PLEASE consult with a vet about homeopathic remedies for your pet.

have someone come into the house and spray. we were infested last year and had to leave home for a couple of days but after that i started using a flea comb it works a lot better than any collars, spray, meds.

Ask your vet to sell you frontline spray. It is as effective as the frontline you would use on your cats and can be used around the house

Mitomax is a lot cheaper and it works on Fleas,Ticks and Mites.

    Frontline is too expensive imo.
