They were Australian or English and tried by their own country.

    Breaker Morant. Superb film that doesn;t get shown enough

    Breaker Morant. About an Australian soldier (and horse breaker) who was tried by the British for "war crimes" during the Boer War in South Africa. Stars Edward Woodward as the breaker.

    Breaker Morant was an idictment against The British Empire's dealings in South Africa while fighting the Boers. It was such a remarkable film that even the Windsors like it.
