I picked up a nasty virus thru Y!A, and I'd like to know?

see, I had seen this answer before, for a number of questions, something like" yeah, that's right. I want to answer, but it's too long", then a web link, which I idiotically opened. I'm sure this is where the virus originated. Now I keep getting these empty black file boxes on my screen, piles of them. Any idea what I should do? I have Kaspersky; it seems to have been defeated by this virus.

When you see these type of answers always report them. Never open a website on here unless you know for sure it is a legitimate website. Download a new antivirus and run it and see if it will help. I have AVG and I have never had any problems with it and it is free. Go to AVG.com. Good luck!!!

I got a virus from here also a while back. So I got rid of AVG and got Norton 360 and working with Norton I have Webroot Spy Sweeper and nothing is getting through now.

There's been about 15 different ones on here that I tried to open a link that the person had and Norton and Webroot stopped it. They are viruses. I know now that I'm protected.

Norton might cost more money but it does protect much better. A friend of mine who owns a store had Kaspersky and she got rid it and got Norton 360 also and told me about it.

I spoke to 5 different internet providers and 3 professionals on computers and viruses and protection and they all said get Norton 360 and get Webroot to work together with Norton. Man, what a difference since I've done this. It's stopping things 99.9 and half % of the time plus. It also is making it harder for people to get into my computer.

I have a Dell and call Dell to ask questions and I called several other computer companies like HP, Compaq etc.

I did my home work before I made this move.

Click on Forum at the left side of the Answers Home Page. There is a suggestion with the name "Battle Thread" in the first 1-5 pages. People who have downloaded the virus on Y!A have banded together to figure out what to do. They may have some ideas for you since they had the exact same problem.

The writer "Eve" (user name) started another "thread" about the Battle THread" but it appears in pages 1-10. More info.

We are all fighting this and no single anti-virus really gets more than 80% of them. www.GO.PCMAG.com has lists of the best ones.

Everytime you see that answer copy the persons URL (right click >save) Report the person and in the comments box paste the link and add a note that the user constantly uses it as an answer.

I have Spy-bot Search and Destroy as well as Avast. (both free)

First thing I would do is go back to the question you answered and report the one who posted the link. Then download many Antivirus stuff.

Barry - download AVG - it's free and lets NOTHING in to my laptop. I had the same thing from a link in here but AVG was all bells and whistles and didn't allow it in.
