Litter Box question for Persian cat.?
We're thinking about getting a Persian cat. how possible is it that the cat will decide not to use the litter box even though the cat is currently box trained?

Depends on the size of the box and the litter you use. You probably will need a more wider and not as deep pan, and only about an inch deep in litter.
Some people will shave down the back legs and around the tail so the Persian stays more clean and doesn't get poop on the fur.

Mine was litter box trained for a year and a half. Then she decided peeing all over the house was a great idea. Four months later she narrowed it down to plastic bags. Now we can't have plastic anywhere in the home. We've tried yelling, newspaper smacking, spanking, squirting with water, and dropping in a bathtub (each of which we tried on it's own for at least a month before moving to something new.) No luck. We're debating on getting rid of the kitten.
Then again, our last cat was an indoor/outdoor kitty and even in the winter, we never had any issues with her. She used the litter box when necessary or asked to go outside. It was amazing. The only time she went in the house was when she got sick and needed a vet visit.
It depends on the cat, on your ability to train and understand the cat, on dramatic litter box changes you may inflict, and on the surroundings. Get the cat, hope for the best, try to train it and if it doesn't work out, bye bye kitty. Hello new kitty.

Litterbox issues stem from the cat feeling comfortable using it. The key, esp. with Persians is to keep it pristinely clean.
Keep what style of litter pan they are using now (covered vs. open, high vs low etc.)
Keep the same kind of litter they are using now.
Scoop twice a day (when you get up and when you go to bed)
Wash it out completely with a good, low scented dish soap and rinse it well once a week.
If you find that they don't end up using it and are always going to another spot, get the hint and move the box. There a lot of very pretty style out there now that don't look like litterpans.
Praise them like the won the world series the first time the use it and you will be off to a good start.

Persians can have issues with using their litter boxes if they are not kept groomed. If allowed to become matted, their fur pulls (and it hurts) if they climb into the litter box, so they choose not to go in. Keep your Persian groomed - it's a daily commitment! - and his litter box clean, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Cats only really stop using the box if they have a medical problem- UTI, bladder infection, etc.
They'll also cease using the box if they're under stress or if the box is dirty.
But cats have an instinctual leave to bury their excrement, so you don't have much to worry about. Keep your cat healthy and the box clean, and you won't need to worry!
