Uhh. It's The Count of Monte Cristo. It's by Alexandre Dumas. I think it was originally published in 1844.

The edition, publisher and published date will change with each time it's re-published by a company. There's tons of editions by every company from Penguin to McGraw-Hill to Barnes & Noble Classics.

    Look it up on Wikipedia.

Dumas didn't invent the phrase. We all die. But then if we haven't woken up, we usually come back to re-live the life we just completed. That is the MOVIE that was assigned to us. But there are some people who not only do NOT wake up, they go BEYOND THE PALE. Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, George W. Bush, Lyndon Baines Johnson, all these people commit crimes of such magnitude that they are NOT ALLOWED any more chances. They descend into a lower world in which there ARE NO POSSIBILITIES of escape. We call this lower world HELL. and THAT is the fate worse than death.
