Any idea what these symptoms might mean?

- intense fatigue, sleeping all day and unresponsive when roused

- sluggish movements and slow response time

- detached

- incomplete sentences; will start to speak and then stop in the middle of a sentence and not pick back up, just sit there as if they didn't know they were speaking in the first place

This is going on with a person I know who doesn't have insurance and doesn't have the money to pay for the Dr or ER visit unfortunately. I am just curious to see what this might be so we can try to help. I know symptoms can often point to multiple health concerns so this could mean any # of things that a Dr would be better able to narrow down. But ... any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update:

I'm not close to them or I would drive them myself; they're hours away from my home.

They are in their mid 50's, male, no known medication overdose or head injury.

This could be from low blood sugar and if drinking some orange juice makes a dramatic difference, then this is the cause. Then, the person needs to eat regular meals with some protein in each meal. Too much of one of their medications (if they take some) in their system could cause this. If they are elderly, any kind of mild infection such as a UTI can also cause confusion/weakness. This too would need medical intervention. These are a couple of known causes for these symptoms.

Need more info? Age of the person, any drug use, any head injury recently? Check the medicine cabinet and surroundings for possible pill overdose. Is one side of the body weaker then the other? Lopsided smile? Need some help to further answer the question!

certainly a mental health problem from what u said in the following

"incomplete sentences; will start to speak and then stop in the middle of a sentence and not pick back up, just sit there as if they didn't know they were speaking in the first place"

It means you should drive your friend to the ER and allow the hospital and your friend to work out the billing later.
