Java Programming Newbie?

I want to try to learn Java programming, but I know you need to be able to compile it, etc. Can someone please explain this and tell me which of the Java tools from http://developers.sun.com/downloads/ I need to download to be able to make it work?

Update:

what's IDE?

Update 2:

I want to edit my code with microsoft Notepad and keep things simple. I actually want to learn the code and all the punctuation that goes with it and everything. So is all I need the compiler? or is there something else? what is best compiler to download?

    1) An integrated development environment (IDE) also known as integrated design environment or integrated debugging environment is a software application that provides comprehensive facilities to computer programmers for software development. An IDE normally consists of a:

    * source code editor,

    * compiler and/or interpreter,

    * build automation tools, and

    * debugger (usually).

    2) NetBeans is probably the worst Java IDE out there, especially for beginners. Trust me, it sucks. For beginners, I would recommend a lightweight IDE called jGRASP. It has a lot of very helpful features, without all of the other crap that you don't need. It can be downloaded freely at:

    http://www.jgrasp.org/

    EDIT:

    I am assuming that you already have the Java Development Kit (JDK) installed. If so, then you have all you need. Use "javac" to compile the source code (.java) and "java" to load the compiled source code (.class).

    Just download netbeans if you're a new Java programmer.

    It's user friendly, Its free and its well documented, What else can you ask for? :P

    It does all the compiling at the push of a button.

    So enjoy yourself :)

    Once you've learnt you can choose any other IDE you wish such as eclipse.

    i assume your situation in the assertion area . through fact if this technique would not enter to any if fact for any reason this technique will enter directly to the ELSE then to the calculation in this time that's going to be sub upward thrust through fact the variable dose not declared in the ELSE fact attempt to declared all variables exterior the IF fact(stable theory) . OR in each and every IF fact and ELSE fact(undesirable theory) .
