How long for the ol' Crockpot?

I got a Crockpot for Christmas, and I am dying to use it. I am in college and normally cook for myself or my boyfriend and me. However, most of the recipes serve 3-4 people. If I cut the recipe in half, do I need to change cooking times at all? For example, I'd really like to cook some ribs, but there is no way my b/f and I would eat the called-for amount of meat. Can I use half the meat at the normal time or will this dry it out? I know leftovers aren't bad, but I'd like to at least know how to cook smaller portions.

The advantages of a crock-pot are that you can prepare left-overs.

A small one will make at least 4 servings of most things.

Ribs will keep fine, if you'll cook them in sauce.

Reducung the quantity is not a good idea, it wastes the power.

Things will take the same time to cook, regardless.

Use half the meat. Check periodically to see if its done. Recipes are just guidelines. There are no "exact" times in cooking because of uncontrollable factors. I would suggest letting it cook 3/4 the normal amount of time and then check the meat for fork tenderness. Let it cook longer if it needs to.
