Tranny trouble 1998 ford ranger ?
I have a 1998 Ford ranger 2wd 2.5L with a 4spd auto tranny, and i believe it is starting to almost slip going down the road, does anyone thing a fluid/filter change would help the situation or where to get a rebuild kit? Or any other ideas
has 96K miles
Does anyone think that it could need a tune up.. I remember my buddy had a 99 chevy 2500hd and his tranny acted to slip but he did a tune up of plugs and wires and ran like a million bucks till he sold it.

You could try a transmission service or a flush, the service consists of a fluid change and filter change. Your problem could be various things from worn internals to low fluid pressure. If it is slipping already then you can only prolong it for a while but you will eventually need to rebuild it. Also if it hasn't ever had a fluid change before then changing the fluid now could be bad. Another thing could be that it seems like a transmission issue to you but it could be an engine issue, either way have a professional look at it.

If you've never done a filter change on it then that's a start. If the filter is clogged that will cause loss of pressure through the transmission. Replace the filter, top off the fluid, and then get a shop or dealership do a transmission flush.

10 years old and 96k miles. It sounds like it may be time to take it to a good transmission shop. It may be time for a rebuild.

maybe torque converter and those tend to take the tranmission out with it with metal shavings :(
