If the computer didn't come with a Windows XP CD, then no, you can't install it. If it came with the CD and the "guy" that installed Ununtu took it, then you need to get it back. If the computer has a sticker with the Registration number for Windows XP, then you can call Microsoft and ask for a replacement CD.
Otherwise, if you install someone elses copy, it's not legal, and you could be fined up to $250,000 for copy right infringement.

If he installed it as a dual boot (you can choose one or the other when you turn the computer on), you can change the Ubuntu partition to a Windows partition and reset the computer to boot directly into Windows. Otherwise you'll have to buy Windows and install it. (You could illegally download a copy and install it but, since you can't activate it, it'll stop working in 30 days.)

If you don't have an XP installation disc. Why don't you consider an alternative Linux distro. I recommend Linux Mint 5 http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_elyssa.php which would run great on your PC by the sounds of things. Its easy install, use and has most of the software you are likely to need preinstalled.

The majority of newer computers have the hard drive partitioned into two sections. One of which contains the OS and one contains the recovery section to how it was out of the box. Recovery is normally F11 on startup. It varies from model to model, hopefully you have a recovery partition.

Nope. You need a legal copy of Window XP. If you are too cheap to buy it then you are stuck with what you have.
