What is the nutritional value for puppies, and how much should they eat?

I have a mutt, she is 8 months and about 9 lbs. i can see her ribs, and many people tell me she is under weight, i have switched foods a couple times, started with Purina Puppy Chow, Then Iams, then Eukanuba and then back to Purina. I have tried using Savory sauce an it seemed to help for a bit but i am back to the same problem. Most of the food she eats is table food, and if i don't feed her that she eats ONLY her poop. I don't know what to do.

If it helps i know she has German Shepard, Rott, Shitzu, Beagle, and POSSIBLY Husky. She will only get to be about 15 to 20 lbs. full grown.

It is hard to say how healthy your dog is without actually seeing it. With so many different breeds of dog she could really be any size. There are a few problems with what you are feeding her. First, you keep switching foods on her and that can put her off of food. When she is hungry she will eat (obviously she eats the scraps) Secondly, be careful on what types of scraps you are giving her, Finally, those brands of dog food are not really that good. Their main ingredients are corn and grains (rice). Dogs are carnivorous and their main diet should be meat. They can't properly digest the corn or rice and there is very little nutritional value from them. Because they can't digest it properly, the poop will smell similar to the food which is why she is eating it. Try switching again to a better quality food. Obviously it will cost more, BUT she will eat less while getting the proper nutrients, poop less, and live a longer healthier life!!! Look at the ingredients. The first few should be meat and not grains. The best food available is Innova Evo. There are many other good brands including Natural Balance, Wellness and others. Just look that the first 3 ingredients. They should be animal (fish, turkey, chicken, lamb, beef, buffalo). Vegetables are also good as they can provide other nutrients in a digestible form. Just remember, as little grain as possible, if any. Stay away from Purina, Iams, and Science Diet.

    1) If she's really a combination of those breeds and ANY of those breeds, she should not be 9 lbs. and she is supposed to be more than 15 to 20 lbs. full grown.

    2) Stop feeding her table scraps and stop feeding her crap dog food. Get some good dog food and not any of the junk you have listed. You're either not feeding her near enough, or she's lacking in nutrition because of the poor quality feed (or both). But lastly and most importantly...

    3) Take her to the vet ASAP!!!! Your dog is seriously malnourished! If you really are feeding her like you say, then there's no way she weighs that little and has any ribs showing. If you are and she does, then she may have worms or another disease. Has she ever been to the vet and is she up on all her vaccinations? Taking heartworm preventative? Is so, then we're back to her not getting enough nutrition.

Also, there's the possibility that either you or the person who sold her to you knows nothing about what breeds she's made up of because with the exception of the Shih Tzu or any smaller breed, NONE and I mean NONE of the other dogs listed I don't care if they're crossed with a Chihuahua, will make a dog that weighs only 9lbs. at 8 months of age.

Either way, get the dog to a vet. Please.

Wow, feeling ribs is good but seeing ribs is not. I dont like any of those foods youve tried. Solid Gold is my choice for food. Ive done research on it.

I would get her checked out at your vet. Especialy for worms or other parasites if shes a poo eater. It could be a simple vitamin deficiency.

    Good Luck
