Are you actually gullible enough to believe the 2012 Mayan prophecy?

No, I actually have a brain.

Honestly, I was pretty skeptical about the whole Mayan thing at first. My uncle is big on apocalyptic doomsday theories and he was the first one to mention this to me. I studied physics in college, with an emphasis on astronomy, so the theory about the earth's magnetic poles flipping when the solar system passes through the galactic equator got me a little interested. I decided to do some research on my own and came up with a few interesting things.

First let me explain a few facts. The earth's electro-magnetic field, the magnetic poles, and the magma core are all interconnected. We have a magnetic north and south because tidal forces between our planet, other planets, the sun, etc. keep the core in a continually rotating liquid magma state. North is north and south is south because it rotates in one direction. If that direction were to change, then magnetic north as we currently know it would become south. This rotating magma core also drives the earth’s electro-magnetic field. Like any magnetic field it also has a north and a south. If the earth’s magnetic poles flipped, so would the electro-magnetic field. This field protects the earth from all kinds of radiation that is very harmful to living things. For example, solar flares; without the electro-magnetic field the earth would be ravaged by massive outbursts of radiation from our own sun’s solar flares. Instead, we see a beautiful spectacle in the northern sky known as the Aurora Borealis (caused by solar radiation interacting with the electron stream in the electro-magnetic field at the magnetic north pole). Needless to say, if the tidal forces driving the earth’s core were to change significantly due to say, the passage of the solar system through the galactic equator, then it would take the core a long time to eventually slow down and begin rotating the opposite direction. During this time the magnetic poles and electro-magnetic field would gradually weaken and eventually collapse until the core gained enough momentum rotating the opposite way to restart it. In addition some scientists believe that a super massive solar flare (the likes of which we have never witnessed) could possibly flip the polarity of the electro-magnetic field which would in turn have the same effect of slowing down and eventually reversing the earth’s core. There are many theories out there on how such an event could happen, but regardless, if it did the effects would be catastrophic and last a very long time (increased volcanic activity, earthquakes, harmful solar radiation, etc.).

In my research of this issue I uncovered a few very startling and potentially ominous facts. I figured that if an event such as the reversing of the earth’s poles has happened in the pasts like many scientists claim, then there would be some sort of geological or archeological record. So I googled “mass extinctions” and found a nice graph on wiki of all the previous peaks in mass extinction of species throughout the earth’s history. The greatest of these was named “The Great Dying” where 90% of all marine and 70% of all land species mysteriously went extinct. This happened about 251.4 million years ago. Then I looked up the time it takes our solar system to make one complete revolution around the galaxy and to my surprise I found that the best estimate is between 225 and 250 million years, give or take a few million of course. Don’t believe me? Just google “galactic year”.

Now match those facts with the end of the current Mayan calendar on Dec. 21st 2012, the alignment of the center of the galaxy, the sun, and the earth in the galactic equator on 11:11am gmt on Dec. 21 2012. And you can’t forget the sun’s 11 year sunspot cycle which will be transitioning into its next cycle with a fiery display of solar flares at about the same time.

So the question is, based on that knowledge…what do you think will happen? The truth is that astronomers have no definitive answer on what effect, if any, the alignment and passage through the galactic equator will have on our fragile little planet. But historical data and ancient Mayan prophecies point to something very significant. The world most certainly will not end. Whether or not humanity survives is another question entirely.

I am far from gullible I can assure you of that, but I have read many books, watched many DVDs and checked out hundreds of web-sites... So that would make me very well verse on the subject...What do you know about 2012, come on what do you really bloody well know, bugger all I bet just like the rest of the negative response people who are probably gullible enough to believe in Adam & Eve and all the rest of the faerie tales, which pertain to a certain false religion....

I don't know why people continue to refer to 2012 as Doomsday.. It is the end of the Mayan Long Count Calender, the beginning of a new era, not the end of the world..

All the disasters which are happening throughout the world right now have been foretold, even in the Bible..

Crop-circles are a direct communication from the Light Beings, Interdimensional travellers who are here to help with our Ascension into the 5th dimension..They are not man-made as the government and the government run puppet media would have you believe..They are also mentioned in the Bible, Acts 2:19..

There is a new frequency being received right now by the earth and we are all being affected by it, many of us have a job to do and we are becoming aware of just who we really are..Many of us are Light Workers and we will have task of helping others understand what is happening...

The Church knows this is happening and they are calling it the 2nd coming among other things, just another con really, they know their time is up...

Well, if that's the case, then I should stop planning for the future, 'cause I'll never make it to college!

If any of us are psychics (which I'm a bit sure we aren't), then only that psychic person would know.

There were once people who just KNEW that the Earth was flat...

AND, there was already a previous "doomsday," June 6th, 2006.

A bunch of people KNEW that the date, 6-6-06, meant nothing but horrible fates for all humanity. So, as of now, I'm not too convinced.

I don't believe the world is going to end and all that but look at the facts:

They have been accurate in predicting pretty much everything from solar eclipes to things like that.

In 2012, all the planets will align, something that hasn't happened in thousands of years. Nobody has a clue what will happen when they align.

So, maybe not the end of the word but something can happen.
