    Hello;

    The first computer language (as we would understand it) would have been machine code ... this was the painstaking process of entering all the little procedures according to how the chip was designed ... it was very difficult to use. This is what Bill Gates and others would have used to write the there programs in.

    If I remember correctly ... The first modern computer Language was CoBOL (Common Business Oriented Language) written in the mid 60's. It was a very powerful language written for doing business (by the military).

    Hope that helps,

    Bill

    Computer programming was around long before Bill Gates by about 40 years - http://www.computer50.org/mark1/contemporary.html and non-computer devices were being programmed before 1900 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programming_language

    MS-DOS was written in assembler language in 1980 - http://www.skrause.org/computers/dos_history.shtml

    It had around 4,000 lines of code, Windows Vista has around 50 million. In comparison, Fedora Linux has 205 million lines of code, of which 7 million are contained in the kernel - http://www.linuxfoundation.org/publications/estima...
