IRB car stickers... hello?

You know those stickers European cars are supposed to have that indicate the home country of the car/driver? In my area (USA Florida), I keep seeing them on the backs of cars, but they say 'IRB.' I was a little blown away. It turns out, the locals who have these stickers live in Indian Rocks Beach! Whose bright idea was this? Every time I see one of these cars, I can only think "Irish Republican Brotherhood.' Did anybody think this out when they started their little area promotional campaign? Who could miss this? You're trying to start a little publicity/unity campaign among area suburbanites, and you choose initials like IRB? For years (until I finally found out) I was thinking these people were advertising membership or sympathy with the Irish Republican Brotherhood.

Most of them probably aren't aware of the meaning. That's what happens I suppose when you live in an insulated environment, where the most in depth conversation is the size, shape and consistency of a child's feces, and whether or not they have ADD.

It is unreasonable to think, with the size of the world we live in, that one set of initials would stand for only one thing. Those initials also stand for international review board, amongst other things. However, to ease your mind, The Irish Republican brotherhood dissolved itself, although it is not known whether a formal decision was taken, or it simply ceased to function. That happened, according to Wikipedia, in 1924. So I'm sure they are no longer a threat to you. I'm not sure why you seem to imply they still exist, perhaps you're thinking of the Irish Republican army. If you want to know their actual history, instead of relying on unsubstantiated and unreasonable fear, look them up on Wikipedia.
