Thumbs Down.Thumbs Down?
Wouldn't you just love to know who it is that is always going around giving thumbs down to answers even when there good ones?
Would it be nice if yahoo would fix it so that if a person gave a thumbs down to a answer the person or persons had to give reason why and if the reason wasn't good enough they would get charged 10 points off ? If they click thumbs down they would have to post right under your answer telling why they disagree. Of course it would also have to be fixed to where you couldn't start a flame war or anything. You wouldn't be able to contact the person who disagreed. But everyone would know who it is. If it's just someone with a chip on there shoulder or can't stand a truthful answer. I think it would slow down the trolls don't you? This way they could catch all that is doing it just to be malicious. Throw them off of answers. Just a idea. What do you think?
It's not that it makes me mad or anything. It's not fair for the poster whether it's me or anyone else to get a thumbs down with out reason. Plus' If i understand correctly for ever thumbs up you get it's another point. But for ever thumbs down you either get face value of the question 10 points. I know it's not all about the points but at the same time if you give a good right answer you should be rewarded fully and not lose a point because some **** hole doesn't agree because that's not what they want to hear or just wants to be malicious.
OK Lew' I stand corrected as far as points go. But still. Fair play should be the way here on yahoo answers.

THe person giving you the TD is telling you. They either think your answer is wrong (mostly in the science categories) or the disagree with your opinion. You are reading too much into the use of TU/TD. Take a simple question. What is your favorite color? (note this question is a violation, but for illustrative purposes here). If you answer pink and someone answers blue, instead of other people answering blue or pink, they just TU/TD the answers. If they don't like your pink and are neutral on blue, they may TD you and do nothing for the other answer. It is nothing personal, it is just away of agreeing or not.
However, thumbs down can be gotten for many reasons, only one of which is the correct usage. Some of the ways:
1. the answer is incorrect or you disagree with an opinion (the only real reasons)
2. you sound over 18 (believe it or not)
3. you support the rules on YA
4. you understand the rules of YA
5. you take the site seriously
6. you answered the question (some answerers will TD all other answers)
7. it was fun (random playing)
8. you are in the military, a policeman, or some authority figure
9. etc -
very few TDs are legit so don't sweat it unless you get one say on a science or math question, then review your answer for a mistake

there you go H! they come from people like Worstans who just have no mind! lol so pay no attention. I personally wish yahoo would get rid of thumbs down and only have thumbs up! It would be a much more positive place. Then people would have to have a good verbal arguement as to why they don't like ones answer. It would bring about better debate. In the meantime, that question was very beautiful, I looked at every single place that people were from, and it made it on more of a personal level. Never mind H, about the thumbs!

I Totally agree with what you said. Because : there are some people just keep giving thumbs down to all the answers even the excellant ones. They should make it when you give a thumb down, you should give a reason what was wrong about the answer! One time I asked a question and there was excellant answers but a few people was just giving thumbs down to all the answers without any reason! They really should change this!

The person that does Thumbs down should have their avatar attached, just like in replies.. that way, we can know the trolls who are abusing the Thumbs down by going to a users profile and thumbs downing all his historical comments through time.. which is happening to me now, by two trolls on all comments I make.

Many people thumb down all the answers apart from their own just to hide them. It makes it easier for the feeble minded to find their own answer when the question goes to the public vote.
Thumbs down do not cost you any points at any time. The only time that a thumb earns points is when the answer is chosen as best answer and you get 1 point for every thumb up (max 50 points)

Yes! haha but I agree. One girl just gave me a thumbs down because I answered a question about the Jonas brothers and she doesn't like them!
Edit: I now have 5 thumbs down for that. It makes me angry!
